Ingrown Toenails
An ingrown toenail, also known as onychocryptosis, is a common condition in which the nail grows in a certain way that pierces one or both sides of the nail bed. If you believe you have an ingrown toenail, it is best to have it treated right away. Without management, ingrown toenails can lead to infections. Ingrown toenails can be caused by: 1. Poor footwear 2. Incorrect nail cutting 3. Repetitive or traumatic injury to toenails 4. Nail health (infections (i.e. fungus)) 5. Genetic predisposition Symptoms/Signs: - Pain - Redness - Swelling - Drainage (clear or pus) - Excessive tissue build up (hypergranulation tissue)
