Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia close to the heel bone. Plantar fasciitis presents with pain with the first few steps in the morning or after a period of rest.
A sudden increase in activity often triggers heel pain, more so following an extended period of inactivity. Plantar fasciitis may also start after wearing unsupported footwear combined with poor biomechanics.
Treatment involves rest or activity modification, icing, plantar fasciitis compression sleeve, strengthening & stretching our extrinsic leg and intrinsic foot muscles, using supportive footwear, and custom orthotic use. In more complicated cases of plantar heel pain, the use of night splints and shockwave therapy
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain, but it is treatable.
